Alternate Mix

Interleave the pages of two PDFs — perfect for front/back scanned documents.

About this tool

When you scan a two-sided stack of paper on a one-sided scanner, you end up with two files: one with all the front sides and one with all the backs. Alternate Mix interleaves them page by page — front 1, back 1, front 2, back 2 — recreating the original document order automatically.

If your back sides were scanned in reverse (last sheet first), enable the reversed option and the tool compensates for it. Everything runs locally in your browser.

How to use Alternate Mix

1

Add exactly two PDFs

The first file provides the odd pages, the second the even pages.

2

Set the second file order

Keep normal order, or choose reversed for back sides scanned last-to-first.

3

Download the mixed PDF

The interleaved document downloads right away.

Frequently asked questions

What if the two files have a different number of pages?
The tool alternates as long as both files have pages, then appends the remaining pages from the longer file at the end.
When should I use the reversed option?
Use it when you flipped the stack to scan the back sides, which puts the last back page first. The tool reverses the second file before mixing.
Can I mix more than two files?
Alternate Mix works with exactly two files. To combine more documents sequentially, use the Merge PDF tool instead.
