Compress PDF

Reduce your PDF file size so it is easy to email, upload and share.

About this tool

Email attachment limits, upload caps on portals, slow connections — oversized PDFs get in the way constantly. Compress PDF re-renders your document at an optimized resolution and image quality, often cutting the file size by 50 to 90 percent for scanned or image-heavy documents.

Three levels let you balance size and quality: Light for near-original quality, Recommended for everyday use, and Extreme for the smallest possible files. Note that compressed pages become high-quality images, so selectable text is not preserved — ideal for sharing and archiving.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on the content. Scanned and image-heavy documents typically shrink by 50–90%. Documents that are already highly optimized shrink less.
Will the text still be selectable after compression?
No. To achieve maximum compression the pages are rebuilt as optimized images, so text can no longer be selected or searched. Keep your original if you need selectable text.
Is there a file size limit?
No artificial limit. Very large documents are processed page by page in your browser — a progress bar keeps you informed.
